The Tibetan Thangka Academy forms part of the Shangri-la association for cultural heritage preservation based in Shangri- La, Yunnan province, China. The association was founded by a group of volunteers who are dedicated to protecting local ethnic cultural assets and passing them on to further generations. The Association targets Tibetan culture, Buddhism, art, music, handy crafts, folk stories and poems.
Originally created to help local Tibetan people learn the skills of their rich culture, the program has now expanded to allow other groups access and insight into the rich heritage of Tibet.
The Academy is a non-profit making business. All profits from the Academy are donated to the Shangri-la Association to support charitable projects in the area.
